Academics

Curriculum is what we expect our students to learn; to know and be able to do. The expectations are defined for each course as Essential Learning Targets. Teachers make the Targets clear to students so that they always know the purpose of their experiences and lessons. Our goal is for students to experience contemporary, relevant Targets to prepare for learning and life.

We help our students learn through varied instructional delivery methods. If you're in our buildings, you might see students listening to presentations, viewing lessons via the SMART Boards, working collaboratively to solve problems or design solutions, and witness students themselves conducting discussion circles or seminars. Teachers continually participate in a renewal process studying instructional methods that best support student success.

We use a variety of assessments to measure student progress. Summary assessments are defined so that students and families can anticipate the methods of assessment within a course. Teachers conduct regular formative assessments to inform their instruction and allow students to monitor their learning. In addition, the district participates in standardized state assessments for accountability.
