The Stoughton Area School District is committed to preparing our students for the emerging world in which they will live. This means we are devoted to planning and implementing personalized, research-based digital learning strategies so all students can achieve their full potential. Providing each student with a Chromebook is essential to support this initiative.
Starting with the 2017-18 school year, all students in grades 6-12 will be assigned a district Chromebook to support our District’s mission in preparing students for the emerging world in which they will live. This means we are devoted to planning and implementing personalized, research-based learning strategies so all students can achieve their full potential.
Students will receive their device the first week of school. Students in grades 8th and 12th will be assigned a Samsung 11.6-inch chromebook, a charging cord, and a protective case. Students in grades 6th, 7th, 9th, 10th, and 11th will be assigned a Dell 11.6-inch chromebook, a charging cord, and a protective case.
Providing a safe digital space for our students is a top priority with this roll-out. Therefore, we are implementing a new K-12 digital citizenship curriculum this year. This curriculum is designed to empower students to think critically, behave safely, and participate responsibly in our digital world.
Students will be required to take their chromebook home each night, and bring the device to the school the next day fully charged.
Chromebooks will be filtered while students are at school and home. Our filtering solution provides families access to their students online activity at home. Families can subscribe to a weekly digest that will contain browsing history and sites that have been blocked by our filters.
Chromebooks are covered under a district warranty. In the event a Chromebook needs to be repaired, all costs will be covered under the district-issued warranty. This warranty does not cover lost Chromebooks or charging cords.
Students will be responsible for the replacement cost if a Chromebook or charger is lost. The total replacement cost of a Chromebook is $200. The total replacement cost of a charger is between $25 - $35 depending on the model of the Chromebook.
If the Chromebook is stolen, a police report must be filed immediately. The District will issue a replacement Chromebook to the student upon verification of a police report. If the Chromebook is stolen, and a police report is not filed, students will be responsible for the replacement cost.
