Curriculum and Instruction
The SASD follows the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards (WMELS) set forth by the WI: DPI
OWL Curriculum- OWL is based upon the belief that immersion in a learning-rich environment is critical. The environment and interactions are thoughtful and purposeful. All parts of the day are considered opportunities for learning, and the teacher knows the curriculum content, instructional strategies, and individual children well enough to be responsive in a variety of situations. Research Overview
Sonday System Let's Play Learn- Let’s Play Learn offers structured, systematic, multisensory practice for students in preschool through kindergarten. It is used as a tool to develop foundational reading skills and prevent reading difficulties or as an intervention for those who need to strengthen pre-reading skills. Each lesson plan uses proven Orton-Gillingham methods to provide effective intervention in whole-class and small-group settings.
Learning Handwriting without Tears- Making learning and teaching easy and fun by providing superior developmentally appropriate activities, professional development and materials to educators and families. HWT
The Pyramid Model- The Wisconsin Pyramid Model is a framework for implementing a culturally responsive and equitable multi-leveled system of supports designed to enhance social and emotional competence of young children, promote the development of program policies and practices, and provide early care and education providers with practice-based coaching to ensure that evidence-based practices are integrated and used with fidelity. Check out: The National Center for Pyramid Model Innovations for more resources.
Educating for Equity- Please check out the SASD web page (Educating for Equity) for early childhood resources for adults and children!

Summer Excel
The SASD will offer an in person and virtual 4K/5K Summer Excel program this summer. Learn more about the importance of learning through play by engaging with your child in exploration. Play allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination, dexterity, and physical, cognitive, and emotional strength. Play is important to healthy brain development. It is through play that children at a very early age engage and interact in the world around them. This free program will provide activities that support the development of fine and gross motor skills, early learning skills such as math and literacy, and more! For more information and to register for Summer Excel go to the SASD Summer Excel 2021 web page.
