Health & Safety

We're moving! Our COVID-19 tab will move under "Our Families" > "School Safety" on Monday, April 18.

Last updated Tuesday, March 1

On behalf of the Stoughton Area School District, thank you for your continued collaboration, patience and support as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic together.

Our work has always been grounded in serving the needs of all of our students. A significant part of this work in the past three school years has been revisiting and revising our COVID-19 Health & Safety practices.

We collaborate with a variety of entities, including public health and educational experts, to best align our plans with their guidance while also balancing the unique needs of our district.

Commitment to Adjustment

As you know, we commit to adjusting our procedures, as we’ve done in the past several months and past few school years. We must continue to be diligent in monitoring in-school transmission of COVID-19.

Our Key Universal Practices promote consistent, in-person learning for the 2021-22 school year.

Key Universal Practices

  • Face coverings are strongly recommended (not required) in all SASD school buildings, during school activities, AND on school buses for students and staff.

  • Students who are returning to school after isolation or quarantine are still required to wear a face mask for days 6-10.

  • We teach and encourage students and staff to properly wash hands and sanitize, practice good respiratory etiquette, and monitor and report symptoms.

  • Our custodial professionals clean and disinfect school buildings twice daily and in alignment with CDC recommendations. We use Oxivir Tb RTU, Oxivir Five 16 Concentrate, Prominence, Clorox Total 360 and Victory Electrostatic sprayers.

  • In all district buildings, we have needlepoint bipolar ionization units to help purify the air. The units, along with other air quality mitigation strategies, provide us with safer and cleaner indoor air.

  • Students, staff and families diligently monitor their health for symptoms of COVID-19. If staff or students have symptoms of COVID-19, they submit our COVID-19 Tracker Form (staff) or our Student COVID-19 Form (student).

  • Students and staff with COVID-19 symptoms are required to get tested and isolate.

  • We inform families and staff of changes to COVID-19 practices.

  • In collaboration with the Fitchburg Family Pharmacy and the Department of Health Services (DHS), we offer free in-district COVID-19 testing on Mondays and Wednesdays for students and staff. Visit our COVID-19 Testing Program page to learn more.

  • Vaccination remains the number one mitigation strategy. Visit our Community Resources page to learn more.

  • Students and staff work to ensure the greatest amount of distancing when possible.
  • Isolation rooms are established at each school building.
  • Staff execute our action plan when there is a positive COVID-19 case at school.
