What is included in the referendum?
The School District of Stoughton’s Board of Education authorized two facilities referendum questions that will appear on the November 8 General Election ballot. These two referendum questions address the district’s most pressing long-term facilities needs. Together, the referendum focus on:
-
Address immediate district-wide capital maintenance needs
-
Improve safety and security for students, staff, and community
-
Invest in more energy efficient building systems
In addition, the district will continue long-range facility and operational planning.
These facilities investments touch all five district elementary builds plus the District Office and maintenance shop. The referendum is divided into two ballot questions.
Question 1 Includes a district-wide investment in near-term capital maintenance and a significant investment in building maintenance and safety and security. Question 1 also includes a remodeling of the High School Cafeteria and Kitchen
Question 2 Improves safety, security and traffic flow by adding a gym and relocating to the River Bluff Middle School site and removing the Armory. Green space will be added and the parent drop off / pick up will be expanded. A space within the existing gym will be converted to a permanent wrestling room while in-season.
