2022-23 School Year: Paid Meals
Since March of 2020, the federal government has provided free meals to all students. Congress recently declined to continue funding this program beyond this school year. This means all students will return to full price meals or will need to apply for free or reduced meals for the next school year.
There are important steps you can take after July 1, 2022 to be sure your student receives the meals they need next year.
Your student may qualify for free or reduced meals, but you must take action to make it happen. Please follow the steps below:
-
Watch for a direct certification letter from the district. This is your automatic approval of meal benefits. If you qualify through direct certification, you will not be required to complete a separate application.
-
If you don’t receive a direct certification letter by the end of July, please complete the 2022-2023 online application, which will be available through your Parent Portal app. Additionally, we will notify you by email at this time.
If you do not qualify for free or reduced meals, please ensure you maintain a positive balance on your meal account. Information on meal prices can be found at the bottom of our Food Service webpage.
Tips for maintaining your meal account balance
-
Create a family account – To combine all children to one meal account, contact jenny.mckenna@stoughton.k12.wi.us. This allows all children to draw on one meal account.
-
Set up auto-replenish – See our Food Service webpage for details on how you can set up automatic payments that will prevent your account from running out of funds.
To learn more about past-due meal accounts (negative lunch account balance), please review the related School Board policy, po8500.
