District Administrator

It is my pleasure to be the District Administrator for the Stoughton Area School District. We are a proud school system of high-performing students and staff who share a commitment to excellence both inside and outside of the classroom. Here at SASD, we seek to be the premier school district in the State of Wisconsin. That is why we have adapted the latest and most innovative methods of reading and math instruction and why we have grown our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) programs. We have a high graduation rate because we know the work to make students college and career ready starts when they are in kindergarten. We are successful because we enjoy broad community support.

Dr. Dan Keyser
District Administrator
Stoughton Area School District

Dr. Dan Keyser is the District Administrator of the Stoughton Area School District, beginning his tenure at SASD with 24 years of educational experience.

Keyser’s core values are family, compassion, and equity. He is focused on ensuring schools are centered on authentic learning and inspire students to be thinkers and contributors to their community and society. As a proponent of DEI in education, Keyser believes equity is about ensuring each and every individual belongs.  “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is about honoring individuals' lived experiences and providing support while removing barriers to success.  Equity work is both individualized work and a collective commitment by the organization.”

Dan comes to Stoughton having supported the School District of Beloit as their superintendent.  Prior to being superintendent, Dan has served as a district-level leader in Waukesha, Madison, and Monroe. He also served as a building-level leader and classroom teacher in Janesville.

Dan entered college as an engineering major and switched into education three years later. He graduated from UW-Whitewater in 1998 and began teaching Physics and Mathematics. Later he earned a Master’s in Educational Administration from UW-Milwaukee and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Edgewood College.

Dan has had the opportunity to be a part of Rotary Club in Beloit, Closing the Achievement Gap Consortium, the Greater Beloit Economic Development Corporation, and serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Stoughton Chamber of Commerce and Stoughton Innovation Center.

Most recently, Dan has been a mentor to aspiring educational leaders pursuing their master’s or doctorate. He has also taught a graduate course in culturally responsive teaching for UW-Whitewater.

Outside of his profession, Dan is blessed to be married to his wife and father to two boys. Dan spends time with his family enjoying the outdoors; hiking, biking, and walking. Dan enjoys reading, movies, and being with friends and family.

“Leadership is not about being in charge. Leadership is about taking care of those in your charge.”                 — Simon Sinek
