3rd Grade

3rd graders in Music are really starting to come into their own. They are more confident and learn a wide variety of musical skills that not only make them better musicians but better learners. In addition to going more in depth with rhythm, melody, knowledge of instruments and musical styles, they also get to do three instrument units and a full concert in May.

In the winter they will do a recorder unit. Recorders are an introduction to wind instruments that teach skills that can transfer to flute, saxophone, oboe, and other instruments later. In March they start learning guitar. We spend a month or so on that, and then finish the year with a keyboard unit where all students K-5 get an introduction to piano.

The 3rd graders do their concert in February with the 4th graders.  They will focus on world music and do a lot of playing, singing, even dancing!
