Stoughton Police Department and SASD Announce New School Resource Officer

STOUGHTON, WI, July 8, 2025 - The Stoughton Area School District, in partnership with the Stoughton Police Department, is excited to announce Officer Jay Oren as the School Resource Officer (SRO) beginning in the 2025–26 school year. Officer Oren was chosen after a thorough, comprehensive selection process involving members of the SPD Command Staff and 15 SASD members, comprising students, staff, administrators, and a board member.

Officer Jay Oren joined the Stoughton Police Department in June of 2022. Oren began his law enforcement career with the Green County Sheriff’s Department in 2020 working in both the jail and patrol. Oren graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice/business administration. Oren also attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering.

“Oren has focused on building relationships within our community since he started,” shared Police Chief Dan Jenks. “We have formed a new partnership with SASD and Officer Oren will be a significant part.” Jenks added, “Oren has participated in educational activities for students already, including the Reality Maze, Internet Safety, and Alcohol and Drug Awareness. Oren’s ability to communicate and his welcoming and understanding ways will help build positive relations with students and staff.”

“I’m honored to have been appointed to the position of School Resource Officer,” said Officer Oren. “I look forward to working with and supporting the school district in creating a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for students, families, and staff.”

In his free time, Oren is an avid tabletop gamer and enjoys playing Magic the Gathering and Dungeons and Dragons. Oren enjoys spending time with his dogs and serves as Odin’s training decoy at the PD.

SPD and SASD are delighted to welcome Officer Oren to this vital role. We're confident he will have a tremendous positive impact on our school community.
