SHS German Students Immerse Themselves in German Culture at Christkindlmarket
The SHS German Department recently continued its annual tradition of visiting the Christkindlmarket in downtown Chicago. This authentic German Christmas market, located on Daley Plaza, has been a Chicago holiday staple since 1997, drawing inspiration from the renowned Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt, which dates back to 1545.
Students had the opportunity to experience German culture firsthand, sampling traditional German foods such as bratwurst, pretzels, Glühwein (non-alcoholic), and browsing a variety of holiday wares imported from Germany and Austria. The market offers a unique glimpse into German Christmas traditions, providing a valuable cultural experience for our students.
The SHS German Department looks forward to continuing this tradition and providing more enriching experiences for students in the future.
