Stoughton selects next District Administrator, Dr. Daniel Keyser

Stoughton, WI – After a rigorous search process, the Stoughton Area School District Board of Education is pleased to announce its selection of Dr. Daniel Keyser as our new District Administrator, starting in the 2022-23 school year. Dr. Keyser has accepted the offer and will be our new District Administrator pending Board approval of his contract, scheduled for this Monday’s Board of Education meeting.

Board president Frank Sullivan said, “We set high expectations and Dr. Keyser delivered. We’re excited to announce our new District Administrator."

Dr. Keyser brings 24 years of experience and is currently the superintendent of the School District of Beloit, a district with over 7,000 students. Prior to his current role, Keyser has served as the interim superintendent in Beloit; director of Secondary Teaching and Learning in the School District of Waukesha; director of Advanced Learning in the Madison Metropolitan School District; director of Curriculum and Instruction for the School District of Monroe; and an assistant principal at Parker High School in Janesville. 

The Board of Education has involved the community in the search process through a community-wide survey and 10 stakeholder meetings, including several general sessions. Based on community feedback and priorities, the Board developed a candidate profile, and advertising was placed in national and local venues with the hope of generating a diverse pool of candidates. 

Out of a pool of talented applicants, Dr. Keyser was the sole finalist that met the Board’s robust candidate profile and moved forward to the final interview after the first round of interviews on April 26 and 28. The search concluded with a Special Board meeting on Saturday, May 7 after Dr. Keyser’s daylong interview in the district on May 6. 

About Dr. Daniel Keyser:

Dr. Dan Keyser is completing his 24th year in education as the superintendent of the School District of Beloit. 

Prior to his current role, Keyser has served as the interim superintendent in Beloit; director of Secondary Teaching and Learning in the School District of Waukesha; director of Advanced Learning in the Madison Metropolitan School District; director of Curriculum and Instruction for the School District of Monroe; and an assistant principal at Parker High School in Janesville.

“Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is about honoring individuals lived experiences and providing support while removing barriers to success, and ensuring that each and everyone belongs. Equity work is both individualized work and a collective commitment by the organization. 

In my current role, we have worked on addressing equity through individual conversations in the district and out in the community, the E(Q)quality Committee, Building Equity Teams, and coaching at the district and building levels. This has led to conversations about race and DEI within the district as well as out in the community with community groups. 

Through conversation and action, we can dismantle systems that hold some individuals back and creates a space to reimagine a district that serves each and every student.

In addition to our work in Beloit, I also serve as a leader in the Closing the Achievement Gap Consortium (CAGC) as the Coordinator of Grants/Fundraising. The organization is comprised of over 30 districts committed to focusing on creating greater equity in their schools.”
