Fostering Student Leadership
It’s important for students to experience leadership opportunities during their schooling, to learn the art of building relationships within teams, defining identities and achieving tasks effectively.” - Claire Ravasini
Students have multiple opportunities to become leaders at Kegonsa. Some of the activities that our students have actively led in our school community include:
- Pajama Drive - collected over 20 pairs of brand new pajamas to give to students in need
- Shoe Drive - helped our Working for Kids Parent Group collect and organize over 2,500 pairs of shoes to donate
- Planned inclusive Spirit Days such as “Inside Out Day” - allowing all students to participate without having to plan ahead
When students are in grades K-2 opportunities for volunteering and leadership occur mostly within the classroom and grade level. As students progress through the grade levels more opportunities for school wide leadership are available including:
- Safety Patrol
- Play 60
- Peer Recess/Lunch Mentors
- Library Leaders
- School Podcasters (check out our school podcast!)
- School Photographer of the day
