What are the school hours?

School hours are: 7:45 am to 3:00 pm

At this time, no parents/guardians are allowed in the building.

What time do the doors open?
Students are allowed to enter the building at 7:35 am. Please do not drop students off at school before 7:35 am. There is no outside supervision until that time.

Are there school fees?  Yes, elementary (Kindergarten through Grade 5) school fees are $10.00.

What do I do if my child will be absent from school?

In the event that a student absence is necessary, parents/guardians must contact the school before 8:20 am the day of the absence or send a note in advance of the absences to excuse the absence.

To leave an absence message please call 608-877-5200 and listen for the attendance line prompt. Give your child's name, date of absence, and reason for the absence.
When a student is absent and the parent/guardian has not contacted the school, an automated message will be sent to your designated contact advising of the absence.

What do I do when I need to pick up my child before the end of the school day?

Kegonsa Drop Off after 7:45 am

  • A sign will be placed outside with the message “Student Pick Up/drop off, #1, Student Pick Up/drop off, #2”

  • Parent/guardian parks at sign labeled #1 or #2 in the main entrance driveway,

  • Parent/guardian calls the office (608-877-5200) for staff to come out and escort student into the building or the student may use the camera at Door #1 and come directly to the office where the name of student and time of arrival is noted by staff.  

  • Parents/guardians dropping off student specific items will park at sign labeled #1 or #2 in the main entrance driveway and call the office (608-877-5200). 

Kegonsa mid-day arrival/departures

  • A sign will be placed outside with the message “Student Pick Up/drop off, #1, Student Pick Up/drop off, #2”

  • Parents/guardians will need to contact the office in advance with time of pick up and name of person picking up, names of students and their teacher.  

  • Parents/guardians will park at sign labeled #1 or #2 in the main entrance driveway and call the office (608-877-5200). 

  • Parents/guardians will wait in the vehicle for student(s) to be brought out from the office to their vehicle.

  • Parents/guardians will need to show ID at pick up time.

  • Staff will indicate on the Student Sign-In Form, student(s)’ name, parent/guardian’s name picking up, and time of departure.

What do I do if I want to volunteer at the school?
We welcome volunteers at Kegonsa Elementary School. If you are interested in volunteering, contact Erin Conrad, Principal. All volunteers are required per School Board Policy to complete the Stoughton Area School District Volunteer Registration Form. (School Board Policy 1204.00)

Is there a parent group at Kegonsa?
Working for Kids is a great organization that does a lot to support learning and the school environment. From volunteering, to classroom supplies, to playground equipment, it is a dedicated group for the betterment of our learning community.

All parents and guardians are welcome to find out more about this group by attending their virtual meetings the second Tuesday of every month, at 6:15 pm.  If you would like to sign up to come to a meeting, please submit your name and email here. This form is managed by our WFK parent leadership. They will connect you with a zoom link for upcoming meetings.

Where can I park when I pick up and drop off at the school?
 Parking is available on Vernon Street (not in front of the school during school hours) and Chalet Drive.  The circle drives are available before and after school for parents to drive through and drop off/pick up their child.  The bus/staff parking lot is not for visitor parking.

Kegonsa Arrival Procedures

  • 2nd-5th grade students and their siblings will be dropped off at the main entrance drive starting at 7:35 a.m. They will enter through door #1.  

  • Kindergarten and first grade students will be dropped off at the west circle drive at the designated doors.

  • Students MAY NOT be dropped off earlier than 7:35 a.m.

  • Parents/guardians will not be allowed to enter the building with their child. 

*If you have a k-1 student and a 3-5 student you can drop off all your students in the main entrance. 

How will I know when school is closed due to the weather or other emergency?

If school will be closed or delayed due to inclement weather or other emergencies, Madison radio stations WTDY (1480), WTSO (1070), and WIBA (1310); FM stations WIBE (101.5), WMGN (98), WJJO (94.1), WZEE (104.1), WMLI (96.3), WMAD (92.1); and WISC-TV Channel 3, WMTV Channel 15, and WKOW Channel 27 will begin broadcasting any school closing or delay at 6:30 am and continue periodically until about 8 am. A school closure message will also be sent via School Messenger to the phone number designated at registration.
