Fox Prairie Elementary School is again among thousands of schools nationwide that have been participating in the Hour of Code program this week.

For the last several years, Hour of Code opportunities have been organized school-wide at Fox. Described as "the largest learning event in history," Hour of Code exposes students to the basics of computer coding and computer science.

"We live in a world surrounded by technology," Fox Prairie told families in a recent e-Newsletter. "We know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning computer science, and [fewer] students are studying it than a decade ago. That's why our entire school will join in on [the Hour of Code]."

Fox classes have participated in Hour of Code sessions throughout the week. A total of 830 Hour of Code events are registered in the State of Wisconsin this year, according to the Hour of Code website.

"The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify 'code', to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science," the website states. "It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts."
