The Stoughton Area School District's elementary mathematics curriculum is Math Expressions. Within this curriculum, a series of learning progressions reflect recent research regarding students' natural learning stages when mastering concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and problem solving. These learning stages help determine the order of concepts, the sequence of units, and the positioning of topics.

In 4th Grade, units focus on the following:
1. Place Value and Multidigit Addition and Subtraction
2. Multiplication with Whole Numbers
3. Division with Whole Numbers
4. Equations and Word Problems
5. Measurement
6. Fraction Concepts and Operations
7. Fractions and Decimals
8. Geometry

Math Expressions fits the learning professions, the core-grade level goals, and the dual focus on understanding and fluency of the Common Core State Content Standards.
