In the Stoughton Area School District, we believe that the study of music is a vital component to the development of all students. The general music program in our district reflects the National Music Education Standards, also adopted in the state of Wisconsin. Our grade two students will be able to:
• Sing independently on pitch in an appropriate range
• Sing a varied repertoire of songs with expression appropriate to the genre
• Perform on and compare pitched and non-pitched instruments
• Understand and perform simple rhythms using half notes, quarter notes, quarter rests, and paired eighth notes
• Recognize and identify basic differences in tempo and dynamics
