About the Fab Lab
Science, technology, engineering, art and math all come together in our state-of-the-art digital fabrication laboratory (Fab Lab). Built and equipped with the generous support of local businesses, industries, foundations and service organizations, the Stoughton Fab Lab houses a three-dimensional (3D) printer, vinyl cutter, two Epilogue laser cutters/engravers, a milling machine and a computer-guided router. Stoughton is the only known high school in the State of Wisconsin with a fab lab.
A Cutting-Edge Education
At our Fab Lab, students learn how to be project managers, engineers and designers – all at once. The lab simulates the research and development process and allows our students to make everything from furniture to action figures to circuit boards. They learn what it takes to turn an image on the computer screen into a physical prototype. That journey gives them the skills they will need in the new economy.
A STEM Experience
Fab Labs blend STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) skills into a unique learning opportunity that can appeal to all students. Our students get a head start on those skills through electives that we offer at the middle school in Energy and Engineering, Robotics and Wood technology. They take those skills to a whole other level at the Fab Lab.
A Global Network
There are more than 200 Fab Labs in 40 countries, including Afghanistan, Iceland, India and Peru. Our students can share knowledge with any of those labs -- and vice versa.
