Fox Prairie's reading specialists are again engaging in school-wide co-teaching this year.

Fox Prairie reading specialists Nicole Girling and Marilee Cronin will be in each classroom at various times throughout the school year to co-teach during the literacy block of classroom teachers. A co-taught classroom has two or more teachers simultaneously instructing a class of students, and Fox Prairie started the program last school year (2016-17).

"Teachers in a co-taught classroom are able to introduce concepts in a variety of ways in order to best reach your child's learning style," according to the communication from Fox Prairie to families. "Your child has increased accessibility to a teacher during lessons to answer questions, clarify directions, reinforce reading and writing strategies, increase student engagement, and foster your child's learning.

"While we each have a distinct purpose and knowledge base, we plan, implement and differentiate literacy lessons your child will be taught. Research shows that exposing students to different teaching and learning styles improve classroom performance and has a positive educational impact on your child. Co-teaching will allow us to monitor your child's progress on a regular basis. Lessons will be designed to demonstrate the literacy strategies used by readers and writers, as well as model learning strategies that will help your child organize and evaluate a variety of texts. We will continually make adjustments to ensure your child's success. Our opportunity to co-teach together with classroom teachers this year will enhance your child's literacy skills and improve their overall learning in a positive classroom environment."
